Drawings

Using our Happytron drawing software, we’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of spontaneous models over time. The concept is simple yet captivating: live drawing with light on people. The idea is for the model to stand as still as possible while the artist draws on them with projected light. This creates a unique, live special effect that relies entirely on the skill of the artist and the self-control of the model—often leading to hilarious and challenging moments!
When the model steps out of the projection, their "light drawing" remains behind, ideally resembling the model. It’s like creating a three-dimensional coloring page, a two-dimensional drawing in 3D space (are you still with us?).
So far, the LiGHT-UP collective has "colored in" over 5,000 people, ranging from casual passersby to professional models. These sessions have been collaborations with a diverse group of artists and amateurs, showcasing the accessibility and fun of this creative medium.

// LIVE SPECIAL EFFECT: LIGHT DRAWINGS ON PEOPLE IN REAL TIME

creative process

The process involves projecting light directly onto the model, with the artist “drawing” in real time. The interplay between the model’s ability to remain still and the artist’s precision results in a collaborative, often humorous outcome. The light drawings are fleeting yet impactful, blending ephemeral performance with visual storytelling.

Technology

Using Happytron software and projection technology, the project creates interactive light art that encourages participation and collaboration. This accessible and entertaining format has engaged over 5,000 people, from random bystanders to professional models, making it a highlight of LiGHT-UP collective’s innovative approach to art and interactivity.
